The Gazelle Arrow is located in a large agricultural valley in Northern California, just north of Mt. Shasta. Most of the valley is used by large cattle ranches.
The Gazelle Arrow is located several miles west of I-5 in the middle of a large cattle ranch. We contacted the owner of the ranch and explained that we were photographing & documenting concrete arrows. The owner gave us permission to cross his land, and even pointed to the exact location where the arrow was located. He said that I couldn’t drive to it, but would have to walk in from the road.
The arrow is located on the top of a hill that overlooks the cattle ranch.
The arrow is basically complete but in poor condition. The concrete pad where the beacon once stood is mostly gone now.
The total length of the arrow is 56 feet.
The pilot would approach the tail of the arrow on a compass heading of 324° (NW), and then exit the arrow on a compass heading of 340° (N-NW).
All measurements and compass headings are approximate. |
