Buffalo-Albany: Effective June 1, 1928, air mail service will be inaugurated by Colonial Western Airways. Buffalo-Albany completing the Cleveland-Albany route service. Connection is made at Cleveland with the east and west bound Transcontinental planes and with the Detroit route. If any of the station stops are not ready the above date, the contractors will be permitted to omit those cities not equipped. Fairchild cabin monoplanes, with 200 h.p. Wright engines have been selected for passenger and express transportation, while in instances where there is only mail to be flown Pitcairn “Mailwings” will be utilized. The spacious cabins of the monoplanes will accommodate four passengers with all the comfort of luxurious sedan. For flying in cold weather or at high altitudes, the cabins will be equipped with heaters and ventilators. Planes are bonded and engines shielded for radio, which will be installed at an early date to further safety. The passenger rate will be about twelve cents per mile, or a little more than twice that of railroads, including Pullman reservations. The fare from Albany to Cleveland will be only $60. Between Albany and Buffalo, it will be possible to effect time savings of as much as 3 hours 40 minutes over ordinary rail transportation. |

ROCHESTER, N. Y.—Orders have been issued by the airways division of the Department of Commerce for construction of 22 air beacons on the Albany-Buffalo section of the Albany-Cleveland route.
The 20 towns and cities to get the beacons are : Akron, East Pembroke, Batavia, Bergen, North Chili, Fairport, Woolworth, Newark, Clyde, Savannah, Jordan, Minoa, Canastota, Verona Station, Herkimer, Little Falls, Hallsville, Fonda, Auriesville and Scotch Church, all in New York State. The contract has been let to the B. and B. Construction Co. of Columbus, Ohio. |
