Completes Lighting Survey of Columbia Gorge Route
(Staff Correspondence)
WALLA WALLA, WASH—Grant M. Berryman, in charge of the lighting of the air route between Portland and Spokane, has completed a preliminary survey of the Columbia Gorge section of the route here.
According to Berryman, it will be necessary to place small gas lights along the bottom of the Gorge, with beacons along the edges of the canyon, which is in some places 1,000 feet above the river. This lighting system will connect up with that extending from Salt Lake City to Pasco on the present air mail run. It is expected that when this route has been lighted the next problem in the Northwest will be
laying out the proposed airmail routes from Pasco to Spokane. Portland and Seattle. |
