To obtain this FAA License you must attend a ground school for ‘Drone Pilots’.
The ground school will cover the rules & regulations of when & where you can fly the drone; along with the general FAA rules of flying an aircraft, how to read and understand Vector Maps, and different types of weather in regards to flying. Once you’ve completed the ground school you must then pass a written FAA exam.
The license is then good for 2 years before a renewal is required.
There is no requirement that you own a drone before attending the school or taking the written test, as there is no practical test to see if you can actually fly a drone.
We have a transponder set to the Airport's radio frequency and monitor air traffic prior to taking off and while flying.
We have a spotter looking for all air traffic that may be in the vicinity.
We fly under 400 feet, ususally no more than 150 feet and know where our drone is at all times.
We notify the Airport Manager that we are going to be flying the drone.
We check current weather conditions to confirm our ability to fly safely.
We have a flight log book and keep a record of each flight.
