The Thayer Jct. arrow is located just off of I-80, on the north-side of the interstate. At the most it’s a 2 minute drive to the arrow up a well maintained dirt road. Four wheel drive was not needed to get to the arrow. There are five informational ‘story boards’ located at the arrow providing information on the air mail routes. These boards are maintained by the Sweetwater Couty Historical Museum.
The arrow is located in a flat open plain, and while we were there the wind was blowing exceptionally hard. The wind made it difficult to be out in the open for very long.
The base on which the generator shed stood has only the outside edge remaining. The interior is completely missing. The rest of the arrow though is in fairly good condition. The arrow itself is approximately 67 feet in length, one of the longest we encountered on our trip.
The pilot would approach the tail of the arrow on a compass heading of 82° (basically east), and then exit the arrow on a compass heading of 82°.
(All measurements and compass headings are approximate).
