Goshen

(C-NY Site 11).—The intermediate landing field at this point, covered by Airway Bulletin No. 354, has been enlarged, it being now an L-shaped field with an available triangular tract at the junction of the runways. These runways are north-south 2,640 feet; east-west 2,640 feet; northeast-southwest 2,800 feet; northwest-southeast approximately 1,500 feet. Approaches to all runways are free from obstructions at the usual 7-to-1 glide. An unmarked transmission line on 90-foot towers, running in a northwesterly to southeasterly direction, is located one-half mile north- east of the northeast corner of the east-west runway. A 51-foot airways beacon tower is located 50 feet east of the southeast corner of the north-south runway. North of this tower is a hangar 30 by 20 feet by 20 feet in height, placed so close to the tower that it is unmarked. A 24-inch beacon, 2,000,000 candlepower, elevation of main beam above horizon approximately 1 ¾ ° is mounted on the tower, at the base of which is a concrete directional arrow whose bearings are: Forward 87 ½ ° azimuth true, 87 1/2° azimuth magnetic; backward 271° azimuth true; backward 271° azimuth magnetic. The number " 11" is painted on top of the power shed, which forms the feather end of the arrow. This facility Is located 2 miles south-southeast of Goshen in latitude 41° 32' 36"; longitude 85° 49'; altitude 708 feet. Day markings are a 50-foot circle with two projections, located at the intersection of the run- ways. Metal cones painted yellow and mounted on boundary lights outline the field. An Illuminated wind cone is mounted on the beacon tower. Boundary lights mark the field at night and green approach lights indicate the best runways. Green course lights flashing a code—dot, dash, dash—will be placed in operation within the next 90 days. An airways radio range beacon is operating 3 miles northwest of this field.

(C-NY Site No. 14).—A new intermediate landing field has been established 2 miles northwest of Helmer, latitude 41° 33' 45"; longitude 85° 11' 30" ; altitude 1,100 feet. This field replaces the fields formerly located at Ashley and Wolcottville, which have been discontinued. This irregular-shaped facility has a level sod surface and landings may be made in all directions. Best runways are north-south 1,500 feet; east-west 1,700 feet; northwest-southeast 2.000 feet: Southeast-northwest 1,500 feet. Buildings to the south of the field are marked with obstruction lights on 30- foot poles, and a barn to the north of the east end of the east-west runway is marked with a red light. Watch house and 51-foot beacon tower are located immediately adjacent to the barn. A 24-inch beacon, 2,000.000 candlepower. elevation of main beam above horizon 1 ¾ ° is mounted on the tower, at the base of which is a concrete directional arrow whose bearings are: Forward 96 ½ ° azimuth true, 96 ½ ° azimuth magnetic (to site 17, intermediate field at Bryan, Ohio) ; backward 271 ½ ° azimuth true, 271 ½ ° azimuth magnetic (to Goshen radio range). The number "14" in solid black is painted on the yellow roof of the power shed which forms the feather end of the arrow. Day markings are a 50-foot circle with no projections, located in the center of the field. Metal cones painted yellow and mounted on all boundary lights outline the field. An illuminated wind cone is mounted on the beacon tower. Boundary lights for night flying outline the field and green approach lights indicate the best runways. The name " Helmer " in yellow letters is painted on the south side of the roof of the watch house and route designation " C-NY 14 " is painted in yellow on the north side of the roof of this building. Green course lights flashing a code—dot, dot, dot. dot—will be mounted on the tower platform and placed in operation within 90 days. This site is a weather station and transmits hourly telephone typewriter to airways communication stations at Maywood, Bryan, and Cleveland, for hourly radiotelephone broadcasts.

Lakeville
(C-NY Site No. 9).—The intermediate landing field located 1 ½ miles east and 2 miles north of Lakeville, formerly known as Site No. 9 on the Chicago-Cleveland route, has been enlarged, approximately 10 acres having been added to the west side of the field. This gives runways: North-south 1,035 feet; east-west 1.938 feet. Woods 75 feet high are located 1,000 feet north of the northwest corner of the field; woods 80 feet high are located 500 feet northeast of the northeast corner of the field, this corner being marked by a red boundary light. A pole line and trees along the south side of the site are all marked with obstruction lights. A plot of ground 419 feet north and south by 1,129 feet east and west on which farm buildings stand is situated in the south-central part of the field, the plot in question being excluded from the field proper by boundary and obstruction lights. A 21-inch electric beacon having a white beam of 2,000,000 candlepower is mounted on top of a 51- foot tower placed at the north edge of the above described plot on which the farm buildings are located. This light shows 6 rotations per minute; the elevation of the main beam above the horizon being 1 ¾ °. At the base of the light tower a concrete directional arrow has been established, the bearings of which are: Forward 91° azimuth true. 90° azimuth magnetic; backward, 274° azimuth true. 273° azimuth magnetic. The route designation " C-NY " and the number "9" are painted in solid black on the yellow roof of the power shed which forms the feather end of the arrow. The day marking of this facility consists of a 50-foot yellow circle with no arms, placed in the center of the field; metal cones painted yellow and mounted on all boundary lights along the boundaries of the field. The field border strip markers are of yellow, placed at all corners of the field and at intervals of approximately 1,000 feet. An internally illuminated wind cone is mounted on the beacon tower. Boundary lights outline the field at night and green approach lights indicate the best runways. The green course lights mounted on the tower platform flash a code: Dash, dash, dot ( . ). This intermediate landing field is covered by Airway Bulletin No. 360, a revised edition of which will be issued in the near future.

McCool
(C-NY Site No. 4A).—The intermediate landing field formerly located 1 ½ miles south of McCool, covered by Airway Bulletin No. 352, descriptive of Site No. 5, Chicago-Cleveland airway, has been discontinued and the publication in question has been withdrawn from circulation. A new field is now in operation 2 miles southwest of McCool, latitude 41° 33'; longitude 87° 10’; altitude 600 feet. This field, an L- shaped site has an available triangular tract at the junction of the runways, which are N./S. 1,951 feet; E./W. 2,432 feet; NE./SW. 2,000 feet. Approach from any direction is free from obstructions, except for a 24-foot pole line running north from an airway keeper's watch house and a 51- foot airways beacon tower in the northwest corner of the east-west runway. The pole line is marked with a red obstruction light on one pole 300 feet north of the beacon tower. The 24-inch beacon, 2,000,000 candlepower, shows six rotations per minute, and the elevation of the main beam above horizon is 1 ¾ ° degrees. The concrete directional arrow at the base of the beacon tower bears: Forward: 88° azimuth true; 86 ½° azimuth magnetic. Backward: 268° azimuth true; 266½° azimuth magnetic. Day markings are a 50-foot circle with two projections, located at the Intersection of the runways. Metal cones painted yellow and mounted on all boundary lights outline the field. An Illuminated wind cone is mounted on the beacon tower. For night flying boundary lights outline the field and green approach lights indicate the best runways. The name " McCool" is painted in yellow letters on the south side of the roof of the watch house, and route designation " C-NY 3 " Is painted on the north side of the roof of this building. Within 90 days green course lights located on the lower platform will flash a code: Dot, dot, dot, dash (. . . _). This site is a weather station and transmits weather reports hourly by telephone typewriter to airways radio stations at Maywood, Bryan, and Cleveland for hourly radio telephone broadcasts.

The 24-inch 2,000,000 candlepower beacon shows 6 rotations per minute. Elevation of main beam above horizon approximately 1 ¾ °. At the base of the tower a concrete directional arrow has been established, the bearings of which are: Forward 91° azimuth true, 90° azimuth magnetic; backward 271° azimuth true, 270° azimuth magnetic. (Note: Magnetic variation Is 1° east.) The number "8" in solid black is painted on the rear slab of the yellow arrow. (C-NY Cite No. 15).—A 24-inch beacon, 2,000,000 candle power, elevation of beam above horizon 1%° has been recently established 2 miles southeast of Pleasant Lake, latitude 41° 32' 20" ; longitude 84° 59' 36"; altitude 950 feet. This beacon is mounted on a 51-foot tower at the base of which is a concrete directional arrow whose bearings are: Forward 93° azimuth true, 93%° azimuth magnetic; backward 277° azimuth true, 277%° azimuth magnetic. The number "15" in solid black is painted on the rear of slab of the arrow. Standard red-colored course lights flashing a code—dot, dash, dot—installed on the tower platform will be in operation.

A yellow concrete directional arrow at the base of the 62- foot beacon tower has bearings: Forward: 91° azimuth true; 90° azimuth magnetic. Backward: 280° azimuth true; 279° azimuth magnetic. The number "7" is painted in solid black on the rear slab of the yellow arrow.

(C-NY Site No. 12).—The beacon site formerly located three-fourths mile south and 2¾ miles west of Topeka has been relocated on a site 1 mile north and 3½ miles west of Topeka, latitude 41° 33'; longitude 85° 36'; altitude 938 feet. The beam of this 24-inch 2,000,000 candlepower beacon is 1¾ ° above the horizon, and it is mounted on a 75-foot tower at the base of which is a concrete directional arrow whose bearings are: Forward 87½° azimuth true, 87½° azimuth magnetic; backward 267½° true, 267½° magnetic. The number "12" in solid black is painted on the rear slab of the yellow arrow. Standard red course lights flashing a code—dot, dot, dash—installed on the tower platform will be in operation.

The 24-inch 2,000,000 candlepower beacon shows 6 rotations per minute. Elevation of main beam above horizon approximately 1 ¾ °. At the base of the 62-foot tower a concrete directional arrow has been established, the bearings of which are: Forward—85%° azimuth true, 84° azimuth magnetic; backward—265° azimuth true, 264° azimuth magnetic. (Note: Magnetic variation is 1 ½ ° east.) The number " 5" in solid black is painted on the rear slab of the yellow arrow. In addition to the 24-inch beacon, 2,000,000 candlepower, showing six rotations per minute, elevation of main beam above horizon 1%°, standard red course lights flash u code: Dot, dot, dot, dot (....).
