The La Mesita Negra SE beacon site is located out in the prairie south of I-40 and west of Albuquerque N.M.
The best way to get to the arrow is to exit I-40 at #149, turn south, and then make a right turn at the next intersection which is Frontage RD SW. Go just a short distance, and then on your left will see a short road between the ‘Carrier Refrigeration Plant’ and an RV Park. If you walk straight out this road into the field it will take you to the arrow. From the end of the dirt road to the arrow is .19 miles. I strongly suggest using gps when walking out to the arrow, as it’s located among tall grass.
The arrow is in fairly-good condition except for the base itself, which is in very poor condition. The concrete on the base is all broken-up and sinking into the ground.
The arrow is 60 feet in length and points in an E-NE direction. The pilot would approach on a heading of 76° and exit on a heading of 96°.
